Birth, Postpartum, & Sibling Doula Services with a Holistic Touch

What is a Doula?

The word "Doula" refers to the Greek meaning, "woman who serves". Doulas assist individuals and their partners through pregnancy, labor, childbirth, and the postpartum period. There are four types of support:

Helping you through labor pains by offering nurturing touch, position techniques, & guided imagery to calm the nervous system and promote relaxation

Holding space for emotional and spiritual transformation. Empowering you to make decisions for yourself and to give birth in the way that feels appropriate for YOU.

Making sure that all information is understood so that informed decisions can be made. Also having resources and referrals to other services in the area.

Teaching you how to advocate for yourselves, but also being an advocate for your wishes.

About me

Welcome to my site! My name is Ali Sugarman, and I am a certified birth doula, postpartum doula, holistic practitioner, and childbirth educator. As owner of Sweet Embrace LLC, I aim to assist women and their partners transition into parenthood by giving them the tools, information, and support needed to achieve a positive experience. Because of my background, I love to incorporate and honor the mind-body-spirit connection. Teaching mindfulness and focusing on the innate wisdom of the body is something I cherish and love to pass onto my clients. I believe birth is natural and normal, & our bodies are primed for it! Reducing fear and creating a safe, peaceful environment for this beautiful transition is important to me.

What are my hobbies and interests outside of birth?

I reside in the Mountains of Gilpin County, Colorado and a lot of my time is spent out in nature. I am a big fan of hiking , and simply BEING with the trees. In the winter months, I enjoy making macrame plant hangers, reading, and spending time with my husband, our sweet kitty, and two dogs. My biggest passion other than birth work is further developing a relationship with myself. Self-care is extremely important to me, which is why I love giving that time to my clients. Things I enjoy most in life are seeing live music, dancing, eating good food, being a snuggle bug, and taking care of my plants.

Sibling Doula

All of my clients receive a free consultation, three prenatal visits, presence during labor,  support during the first couple postnatal hours, and 1 postpartum visit. I provide 24/7 support via email or phone, and also provide informational handouts on subjects of your interest.

Providing support after the new family has returned home from the hospital (or settled in if having a home-birth) is my main duty as a postpartum doula. Proper nutrition and emotional support is KEY to the fourth trimester.

Have peace of mind when you go into labor! Whether in your home, the hospital, or birth center, the care and emotional support of your older children is my sole responsibility as a sibling doula.

Holistic Services

I provide Reflexology, Reiki, and herbal sitz baths to help moms relax during pregnancy, and prepare for labor. Reflexology is shown to progress labor and Reiki is known to relax the nervous system which in turn diminishes fear and anxiety. "Ali was very quick to offer to get anything we needed (coffee, water, ice etc), which let my husband stay with me. Although I only labored at the hospital for 3 hours she was available for me to tell her how my contractions we're coming along and offer support for me when I was debating going into the hospital or laboring at home longer. She also had very helpful suggestions on exercises (mainly yoga positions) I could do to help get my body ready for labor. I also felt she did a great job understanding what I wanted the atmosphere to be like in my birthing room, and did a great job facilitating those key components. I wanted the room to be calm and relaxing. She did a great job helping me stay in that place and providing great verbal support an affirmation. My birthing experience was definitely enhanced and improved by having Ali attend the birth."
